Class Description
Stranded Knitting with Portuguese Purling Class Description: Do you get frustrated with your yarns tangling when you knit with more than one strand? Does your carpal tunnel, arthritis, or joint pain flair up when you knit for long periods of time? Do your yarn floats come out too tight or too loose? Well, the solution to these problems lies in an ancient form of knitting known as Incan, Andean, Turkish, Around the Neck, or Portuguese knitting. Come learn a way to do stranded knitting with just a flick of your left thumb. You will be amazed at how ergonomically comfortable this method is, how even your stitches and floats are, and how easy it is to manage two colors of yarn with no tangling. You may never again want to do stranded colorwork any other way. You will be knitting the two-color Blossom Dreams Headband using the Portuguese purl stitch and working with the wrong side of your work facing you. Your yarns will be tensioned by two hooks attached to your shirt. The Blossom Dreams Headband has picot edging and a floral stranded knitting pattern that was designed specifically for this class. Length: 3 hours Experience Level Required: can knit and purl consistently Materials Fee: Included Materials Provided by Instructor: handout, pattern for Blossom Dreams Headband and two knitting hooks Materials Student Brings:: 100 yards of Worsted Weight yarn* for your background color (solid or semi-solid in color), 75 yards of Worsted Weight yarn* for your contrasting color for the floral pattern (hand-painted, variegated, gradient, or semi-solid in color), US size 7 circular needles (16" circular), stitch markers, Size 16 tapestry needle, scissors, and tape measure *Stash yarns may be used for this lesson HOMEWORK is REQUIRED prior to class: You will need to complete the following rounds so that you have more time in class to do the stranded Portuguese purling - Cast on 96 stitches using the long tail cast on Join to work in the round Complete Rounds 1 - 7 by purling all stitches

Masks are welcomed and encouraged. Please do not attend class if you are feeling unwell. Service animals only. Please leave pets at home. Age requirements Everyone must be at least 16 to take the adult classes. Children’s classes start at age 8. Parents must sign a Liability Waiver AND be available during the scheduled class times for contact in the event of an emergency or student disruption. Refunds will not be given if students are asked to leave due to behavior. Space limitations exist for all classes. We try to keep our class sizes small to ensure each student gets personalized attention. For this reason, we require students to register for our classes via our website, prior to 72 hours in advance. Cancellations Class cancellations must be made up to 72 hours (3 days) before the first class is held. We cannot offer refunds for cancellations that take place within 72 hours prior to the start of class. This is to be fair to students and our instructors. We will have closed the class registration and provided the instructor with the final headcount. No refund will be issued for sessions not attended and no refund will be issued after classes have started. No make-up sessions for missed classes unless due to instructor illness or inclement weather. Materials We request that yarn be purchased at All Wound Up Yarn Shop for all classes. You may bring your own needles and notions, however, we do have plenty of supplies available for purchase if needed. Materials are not included unless specified.
